A downloadable game for Windows

A short story with quick battles! Wander around, fight monsters, drink beer, make a friend.

Use arrow keys for everything! Deflect swords, avoid Shields to battle.

Developed in 5 days for the 1-bit game jam. Special thanks to Jio Butler and Claude TC for helping me out when I was in need! I'm dead!

Story was inspired by "You only realize the value of something when it's gone." Not sure I stuck to it though.

Have fun! :D

NOTE: I will be updating Wanderers with more content, music, fixes, improved rat splatting and general betterness so please follow me either here or Twitter @phantogast for updates.

Really enjoyed the game! Do you have any plans on localizing it for other languages?

Thank you! No plans for translation I'm afraid, it was coded in a hurry without that in mind so it would take a lot to fix. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

A perfect Master System or Amiga dungeon crawler! I want to play more of that!

Aha thank you! Weird fact, the game's resolution is 320x190, and the Amiga's main resolution was 320x200 (or 320/220 if you're like me and live in Yurp), so yeah it is pretty much Amiga Widescreen :D Only in black & white! I am working on an update with more content, follow me if you're interested! I'm taking my time with it atm, but I'll get there :D Thanks!

Hey, I just saw a video about the game.

I really love your low-res pixelart style. The dialog sound is frankly irritating. Unfortunate that you didn't have time for music. Still, it looks like a very cool game and a lot of game for five days of work.

awesome concept

This was great! Thank you Phantogast for the windowed build you sent me! I had a lot of fun and I hope I did the game justice with my video!

Ah you did man thank you so much! Now I have to remember to make windowed builds of everything I do huh!! :D

Please do! haha

Interesting game with a great art style, the battle system looks so interesting but for some reason I couldn't  get the hang of it (Sometimes when there is 2 or more shields I missed even tho I pushed the right arrows) and the first fight was so confusing, I am glad You let us go minus on hits!

While the concept is interesting I felt it became quite repetitive after a short while (Te same enemy 3 times in a row etc), and the great comedy banter between such great characters felt like the main thing happening and not the battles.

All of that being said, just 5 days? absolutely amazing work, you created a combat system simple enough for a short game but that can be expanded upon if necessary (like the axe) and it really feels like a sort of tabletop adventure, good job!

Ah cheers so much for taking the time to play all the way through, I really appreciate it! :D The battle system was poorly explained at the start I'm afraid, my fault. Basically if there is a shield up ^, you can press < or > to go around it, all you have to do is press where the shield *isn't* but that's not exactly what I said in the tutorial! Pressing down activates the axe, which if not charged results in a fail. It was worded poorly, I'll fix it as soon as the voting is over next week. Also pressing the arrows to start is SO un-obvious, thank you for working it out! I'd been building the game like crazy for days and it didn't occur to me at all that people wouldn't know to press the arrow keys before they've played the game? Oof! But yeah thanks for playing I'm glad you had some fun! :D

So much fun, love your sense of humour too!

hehe thank you! :D

One quick question, is there a way to make it windowed or take it out of fullscreen?

Sure! I can't update the current version to do that until the B&W Jam's voting is over, but if you DM me on any of these >>> https://linktr.ee/phantogast I can send you a windowed build! :D

I sent you a message on Instagram!

Love the look and vibe! I'll make a YouTube video on it soon, it that's ok of course, and I'll post it here! Thank you for a great game!

That would be awesome! Thank you! :D:D

Genuinely funny and great little combat system at the center of it. Would definitely play a bigger version of this!

Ah thank you so much! :D I'm planning on doing a Wanderers+ version with music, more encounters and improvements and stuff. it'll be the same story, ish, so it won't be much bigger? Maybe? I don't know! Thanks for the kind message it means a lot! :D

Whatever works for you! All I know is I really dug this version :)

Wow looks fun!

But is it as fun as it looks? :o Only one way to find out! Haha! Thanks man!
